It only took 60 years, but in 1988, comic books finally lived up to their name ... right? But seriously, Marvel comics hit upon a goldmine when they published the first issue of What The — ?! in August of 1988, and touted it as the "Marvel Mag of Mirth and Mayhem!" Instead of the usual superhero storyline, this series pulled no punches as a great parody of the genre, taking nothing seriously, not even itself. Featuring such great characterizations as Supurbman, the Fantastical Four, Spider-Ham, the Pulverizer, and Wulvoream, each issue was sure too please. And it did as it's two year/26 issue run proved. In this auction I have the very first five issues of the series in its own protective mylar bag. Cover price for each is $1.25 with the exception of #5, the "stupendously oversized special issue" with a limited run of "300,000 numbered (#5) copies" which priced at $1.50. The comics are in VF/NM condition, only showing slight aging with no major defects - bindings are nice and tight. The 2000 Overstreet price guide values the debut issue at $3.00, with subsequent issues valued at $2.00 each. Don't miss your chance to pick up this valuable piece of comic book history!!
