Everyone knows the Man of Steel, but not everyone is familiar with his roots. Superman made his first appearance in the Comic Book industry way back in 1938 in a book titled Action Comics. Little did his creators realize how long lasting and popular that series, and their superhero, would be. In 1988, to celebrate Superman's (and DC Comics) 50th Anniversary, a special reprint of the original Action Comics #1 was produced (with a 50 cent cover price), and the 600th issue of the series became an 80 page supersized special edition.
Action Comics #1 is in VF/NM condition, showing only minor creasing on the cover. It includes a full color reprint of the original 13 page story inside, and 3 additional pages dedicated to the special anniversary covers of the series over the years. Though not quite as valuable ($7.50 value by the 2000 Overstreet guide), it will still make a great addition to the collection of those who don't have the quarter million to shell out for an original edition.
Action Comics #600 ($2.50 cover price) is also in VF/NM condition, with only slight wear and features a 32 page story co- starring Wonder Woman, written by John Byrne with George Perez, John Costanza, and Tom Ziuko contributing their talents. The rest of the book contains full page artwork of various Superman action shots by various contributors, and original stories. Lois Lane is the star of an eight page plot, as is Lex Luthor, and Jimmy Olsen, all written by Byrne. The final eight page story (also by Byrne) pits Superman against Man-Bat, with Mike Migola, Bill Oakley, and Peta Scotese adding their artistic talents. Valued at $6.00 by the 2000 Overstreet price guide, this comic is a must have addition to any collection. Both comics will also come in a protective mylar bag.
