YOU ARE LISTENING TO MY OWN MUSIC COMPOSITION MADE FOR THE "MOON RISING" PHOTOGRAPH

"A VIEW TO THE PAST"

The photograph was taken May 22, 2008 near Paisley (Chewaucan) Oregon. We have incorporated historic Indian artifacts (Mortar & Pestle) back into their natural setting overlooking the Summer Lake shoreline just off the Oregon Outback Scenic Biway while enroute to Lakeview. The Mortar is flat bottomed and was used for pounding seeds and meats. The mortar is made from basalt. These tools were found on a farm in the 1920s and have been held privately since that time.

The Summer Lake shoreline was once inhabited by the Snakes Indians (including Northern Paiute, Pitt and Shoshone) for a period of nearly 7,000 years. These semi-nomadic gatherers inhabited the Lakeview region of Oregon. Artifacts are quite similar to those displayed at the Favell Museum in Klamath Falls.

An ultra-wide 10mm lens was used with our Nikon D300 to render the scale of this impressive scene. Dust clouds were storming over the highly alkaline lake. The dramatic lighting was indicative of a severe change in weather which brought snow later in the evening, unusual for a region plagued by drought. From the private collection of Clyde Keller.
