~ Anchor Hocking Fire King Johnny Hart Signed BC Bowl ~
This is a vintage milk glass bowl decorated with images from the BC cartoon strip started in 1957 by the late, great artist, Johnny Hart.
One side has the grinning dinosaur; back has bird-toting turtle and large bird. Both signed, "Hart". Bottom reads "Anchor Hocking / [H-crossed anchor logo] / Fire King [in script] / Oven-proof / 19 / Made in U.S.A."
A further design charm: except for the interior and image spaces, this bowl has a rock-like texture all over, as if "sculpted" by a caveperson! NOT your average Fire King, this bowl (5-3/8" from outer edge of tab handle to opposite, and two inches tall) is a rare and fabulous piece of mid-century cartoon strip history.
Condition is EXCELLENT.
