What
do you need to know about a Point of Sale System?
1. A
Point of Sale system is a business machine that captures information about
your sales, taxes, inventory, staff productivity and customer purchases.
The information is provided to you in an organized and detailed printout.
2. 95% of all retail environments do not require very
many extra features in
their POS system. In fact having extra and unnecessary features simply
complicate the learning, using and administering of the Point of Sale
system
and do not return any extra value. An easy to use POS system (like Retail
Manager)
therefore will be less frustrating and will produce better results.
3. In order for your Point of Sale system to be the most
effective it must be

1. In order
to run a successful retail operation you need to have
on-going important yet BASIC information regarding:
A) SALES AND PROFITS
B) INVENTORY CONTROL
A) In simple terms, PROFIT is what we need and SALES
is how we get it.
If you have the product in stock that the customers want, then, obviously
you
will make more sales and higher profits. Another important factor is your
CASH FLOW;
if inventory levels are down. then sales will be down,
and if profit margins (profit)
and sales are down then cash flow and the ability to pay
your bills on time will occur.
On the other hand if inventory levels are too high then
money is tied up in
inventory and cash flow will suffer, and it will therefore, become more
difficult to
pay your bills on time.
B) Maintaining accurate INVENTORY CONTROL in your POS
system is essential to maintain a healthy inventory level. The level of
inventory is not
the only essential ingredient, you have to have the right inventory
items (BEST
SELLERS REPORT) or sales will
fall. Therefore if your sales
suffer then your cash flow will suffer and you will have limited funds
available
to purchase more timely products therefore reducing future sales.
Healthy Cash Flow will be maintained when your inventory
levels are properly controlled.
