Robert Kennedy fought for Civil Rights as Attorney General; his positive vision for the advancement of peace, justice, equality and responsibility is still relevant today. This image is part of a portfolio of images selected by the RFK Center and the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority in a promotion celebrating the renaming of their Triborough Bridge to the RFK Bridge.
"AT SUNNYSIDE" Portrait of RFK taken (surrounded by children) outside the Sunnyside Grade School, Portland, Oregon during the May 1968 Oregon Primary. This photograph offers an endearing image of enthusiasm and hope... it was a high point in the Oregon Primary. Several weeks earlier RFK (April 26, 1968) had spoken in Indianapolis about, education, jobs, community participation, and an end to hunger... "these are the elements of a healthy citizenry. And they must be achieved."
PHOTOGRAPHER"S STATEMENT: The camera I used for all of the Kennedy photographs was an original Motorized Nikon F with Nikkor Lenses. The photograph was taken with a 28mm Nikkor wide angle lens, a personal favorite for available light pictorial photography. Exposures were made on Kodak TRI-X film. The original transparencies and negatives have been kept in dark storage and are in pristine condition. This image captures a feeling of the repoire that was a hallmark of his campaign efforts.
