






Antique Brown Bakelite Hot or Cold Food Container to Take on your Picnic. Wow! I bet you don"t have one of these! We date it to the 1920"s. It is called "THE DEV" by Devine Foods. The lid with its handle is tall; it measures about 10" tall plus the handle on top. The lid is fastened in place by heavy-duty side snap-down fasteners. The Bakelite is a lovely mottled dark brown color. Inside is a heavy matching brown Bakelite plate that measures 10-1/4" in diameter and about 1" thick. On top of this plate rests a very heavy Pyrex bowl that was made for Devine Foods. The bowl measures 9-5/8" top diameter and 5" high. The bowl weighs a whopping 5-1/2 pounds! The bowl has raised lettering that says "PYREX Brand Glassware Made for Devine Foods". Under the bowl is a compartment for food or plates, etc. The compartment is about 5-1/2" high. A gasket fits around the outer edge where the lid fits to ensure a tight fit. The Bakelite container with its lid in place measures about 18" tall and its weighs about 12 pounds! Plus the 5-1/2-pound bowl! Please see the two photos of the bottom of this piece. It has a long patent number and "DEVINE FOODS INCORPORATED, Model K-3-10, Chicago, Ill. U.S.A." and in the center "Trade Mark The DEV, Reg U.S. Pat. Off." This unique item has had Very Little use is in very good condition. The Pyrex bowl is in perfect condition. The original gasket in present and has come apart in one place. As the photo shows, there is wear to the Bakelite, some scuffing and some white marks. As the photos show, there is wear to the bottom of the piece. Not shown in the photos is the set of eight matching brown Bakelite plates, measuring about 9-3/4" in diameter.
