DESCRIPTION:
This 1971 hard cover book by William (Bill) Mauldin is an autobiographical account of ten years in the life of this well-known editorial cartoonist. This high school drop-out from the hills of Arizona and New Mexico won his first Puitzer Prize at age 22, and is considered by many to be the best of all war cartoonists. He was a key part of the "45th Division News" and "Stars and Stripes", and his military satire(while serving in the U.S. Army) flouted policy, never printed officers" pictures, and infuriated General George Patton so much that Patton wanted to court-martial Mauldin. However, other eminent generals considered Mauldin"s satire and humor as such a great morale builder that they gave him his own jeep for traveling about the front! Mauldin was also a correspondent for the Korean and Vietnam wars, and authored numerous books, winning more than one Pulitzer Prize. As one Army historian stated, "there will never be another Mauldin. The Pentagon will never let it happen again." HB with DJ and has 275 pages.
