One end of the cylinder has a metal rod which is pulled up to draw salt solution into the cylinder and then pushed down to inject the solution into the meat. The injecting rod has holes and has a pointed end to insert into the meat.

The push rod is missing its handle. The injecting rod unscrews from the cylinder to fit in the cardboard tube which is missing its lid.

The cylinder is marked "Morton Salt Co. Meat Pump". This device is in good condition although it is missing the handle as described.
