Up for sale is an early Lionel Standard Gauge Steam Locomotive (Lionel’s early period and not the later classic period of train mfg). I believe it’s a No 5 special which was the 5 that included the tender or a # 51 and it says NYC & HRRR on the engine and Pennsylvania on the Tender and NYC & HRRR means New York Central and Harlem River Rail Road , its dusty and needs a good cleaning but looks like its in nice condition and the motor is the old type found on the earliest engines from the teens and twenties. This was purchased from the estate of the original owner who had it in his collection for appx 40-50yrs. The train is made of tin / steel and it has steel or cast iron wheels. This is the top of the line # 5 Lionel loco and it would have pulled the both passenger set ( observation , mail baggage , etc or freight cars like the Flat , Gondola , Cattle , Box , Oil Tank , Ballast Hopper , Caboose. This locomotive is the only early steam engine and tender mfg by Lionel other than the 6 and it seldom turns up for sale so its unlikely another will pop up on eBay in the near future, as it is quite scarce. I was told that this was one of the better locomotives Lionel produced so if you own any of the early cars or other Lionel locomotives this is for you so bid early to acquire this beautiful piece for your collection. Standard Gauge trains and cars were produced in the during Lionel’s prewar Golden Age and were much better than the cars produced by Gilbert , American Flyer , Ives , Dofan and Bing from the same time period. These big early period trains do not turn up often so this is a good opportunity to pick up an old train item , this nice engine is in original used condition with light wear , etc , and is being sold as a collectible toy as is and please see scans for condition and what is included and judge for yourself, Treat yourself to a cool toy and t here's a lot of stuff coming in so if you need anything for your collection please check out my other sales and if you see something you're interested that has not been sold let me know. .
